To Do List (before coming to UW)

Contents

[edit] In no particular order:

[edit] Update your resume

All an employer knows about you, they get from your resume, make it good.

[edit] Pack your stuff

Remember to hoard as much random stuff from your parents as possible. (Unless your flying to waterloo. Then you'll want to pack as little as possible and borrow from your room-mates etc.)

[edit] Think about getting a Mastercard or Visa

Credit cards are great for books, groceries etc (and stuff on eBay). Most banks have student cards, so you can start building a credit rating while you're in school. I have a friend who works, but can't get one because he's not a registered student any more. Take advantage of it while you can.

[edit] Get your drivers license

Not because you'll have a car, but because you'll have little chance to practice at school. If you do, however, get a car, see point about frosh week. Oh, and can I get a ride with you sometime?

[edit] Enjoy the summer, it will be your last 2 consecutive months of freedom

Unless you manage to not find a job for one of your co-op terms... And enjoy those home-cooked meals, because caf food just doesn't compare.

[edit] Register for Frosh Week--it's a blast

Don't forget that school is more than just work. Besides, if you participate in your residence's frosh week, you might just meet that woman of your dreams (you have a VERY slim chance of that in Engineering--supply and demand).

[edit] Bring or buy a winter coat, it will be very very cold
[edit] Buy a Laptop Computer

Despite what they tell you, you will have a really hard time without a computer. We suggest buying a laptop for that group study time, or that last minute programming assignment. It also makes it alot easier to move cities for co-op if you have a laptop.
